Sia - Chandelier inspired Art Speed Painting- by Josie DeVora

I was so inspired by Sia's new song Chandelier that not only did I have to learn how to spell "Chandelier" but I had to paint something quick.Since my computer was the closest medium I figured it would be a cool way to show you guys the hard work that goes behind a digital painting. I speed it up about 1100% to fit the length of the song, seeing as the actual time was about 4 1/2 Hours.

Still A Dreamer- Illustration by Josie DeVora Speed Painting

Here's the story:

This is a complicated piece. Today I felt a bit darker, so I decided to go deep, like the ocean...ooh, deep.

I was watching the Muppet Movie today to cheer myself up and was reflecting on my childhood.  As a kid I was often lost in my own mind. To go somewhere else then where I really was. I often imagined myself playing in a cartoon world like in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit', talking to the muppets or starring at my dog to guess what she was thinking. These where fun games for me to play. In a world that sometimes seems to only get darker and darker it helps to try to find some light. Even if that light has to come from within.  I know this seems like an odd illustration but it makes sense to me. It depicts my inner darkness leaking out and turning into a better place and state of mind.

credits:
The song is originally sung by Jim Henson/Kermit the frog. Its called Rainbow Connection. But this version is sung by Sarah McLachlan. If you want to look more into them, Google them. :)

BMO and Gameboy having a tea party

This is a layout of all the materials I used.

These are all the paper layers that make up BMO
This is the original design of the concept, it works as a guideline .
Without it I would be  buried in a stack of random  paper cuts.

Here is a gutted Gameboy with the Zelda Logo.

This is the test layout before gluing it down.

This is a new Paper Cuts I made of one of my childhood loves Jessica Rabbit.
She was my first crush, I always wanted to do a version of her that was just as sexy as the original.
I remember being 5 years old and watching Who Framed Roger Rabbit and really believing  that  there was a place where cartoons and people could actually play. The reason I love Jessica so much is because of one line she says that always stuck to me till this day. There is a scene where Eddie asks her what she sees in Roger Rabbit, ( Roger being a happy crazy animated cartoon in contrast to her elegant and villainous sex appeal ). Without missing a beat he says,
 "He makes me laugh"
.....silent  gasp'.
From that day on I knew I had to be funny to be loved. . .

My first run at layering her separate paper pieces onto each other.

who could forget these legs

Paper Craft on Wood- by Josie DeVora

The birth of a blog starts with this post. I have always been a story teller. Almost as long as I have been an artist. My illustrations range from sexy and dark to colorful and simple. I am taking advantage of this medium to finally be able to show my art and its backstory. I will be describing my progress and process for you guys to give you some insight on my work and inspirations. I draw a lot of inspiration from other artists and seeing how they crate. Hopefully this blog will teach you how to create your own lines instead of just coloring within them.
